I'd like to get someone in to do a good scrub in my kitchen and bathroom, but I don't know where to find a competent and affordable cleaner. So suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

We use A&A Cleaning Services in Pearland and recommend them highly. Dunno where you live or if they will come out.

Meyerland area. Seems unlikely they'd come. But I guess I could ask.

I've just found Babysitters, Nannies, Child Care and Senior Home Care - Care.com. Has anyone used this service? It looks promising.

We found a 14 year old on our street that we pay to come and do our house work once she gets home from school. We give her $20 bucks a week for four hours. Only downside is my wife has to be home with her to tell her what to do, but otherwise it's been great -- she cleans while my wife spends more focused time with the kids.

for what it's worth, I used Molly Maid. They did a good job but the pricing is not exact since since they charge $75 an hour for each cleaner and I had two cleaners for my one bedroom apartment.

plus to use a credit card they charge a convenience fee which wasn't very convenient for me.

Wow, is this an expensive service in Houston? What is a normal going rate? My mother-in-law visits often, so there is no need for a cleaning service in our house

One of my in-laws is a DM for McDonald's and has thought about opening such a service in either Houston or San Antonio.

What would be a reasonable rate? If it's $75 a cleaner, I bet we could undersell a lot of businesses.

Here in Dallas it's 25 bucks per hour per cleaner if you go with a company.
If you hire on your own, it's closer to 15 or 20 bucks an hour.
Mostly they will take a flat fee...like 2 women clean our house for 4 hours for $150.
They do a great job.

In my neighborhood they pay $125-$150 for an independent woman.. Works out to 25 an hour. Not bad for an undocumented worker. They come at 9 and are gone by 2. I recently called one of those cleaning services. They wanted about 250 for 2 workers. My neighbor from Columbia gets upset. She feels the school teachers should make as much as housecleaners.

Wow, this sounds like quite the business opportunity.

It appears you can really get hosed.
