Hello everyone! I posted here a little while back about the Cinco Ranch area. My husband and I will be relocating our family to the Houston area in July and we are trying to narrow down the suburbs. We are going to check out Cinco Ranch when we visit in a couple of weeks, but from the earlier responses it sounds like it may be a bit too far of a commute into Houston. Right now my top 4 suburbs to explore when we come down are: Sugar Land, Spring, Cypress and Katy. We may check out The Woodlands, but our budget is around $300k and it looks like it's pretty expensive out that way. Any advice that you could offer would be great - I would love some opinions on the areas so we are more prepared when we come down. Schools are at the top of our priority list too. Thanks so much for any feedback you can offer!

All those areas are pretty much the same, except the commute. Sugar Land would be the easiest, Katy next best and Spring/Cypress pretty much suck to downtown.

Can't speak to schools.

Cinco is pretty big now and the term Katy can refer to the city or an area so it is a vague term. Tell us where work is and we can better advise you but Cinco and Katy can be about the same commute to many places depending on where in Cinco and what you meay by Katy

My wife and I are in Spring/Klein (77379 on HAR.com : Houston Real estate, Houston homes, Houston Realtors, TX Homes). She utilizes the Park and Ride system. The commute is 45 minutes for her, door to door.

My husband is going to be contracting as a project manager, so the sites he is working on will vary throughout the year. The majority of the clients are in and around Houston so we want to make sure we aren't too far removed... 45min-hour being the furthest we would want to be. At this point I am most intrigued by Sugar Land so I am happy to hear that would be the closest of the 4 cities we are looking at. If there are any other suburbs that would be good to consider we are wide open to suggestions. We live in the Seattle area so aside from a couple of trips we will be making before July, the thousand mile difference leaves most of the research online. Thanks for the feedback!

Does he know the main areas? This is the most important question.

I would have to say that Sugarland would be your best option.

Sugarland is uber congested. We figured we'd rather drive farther during the week than deal with all that insanity on the weekends when it was OUR time. So we ended up in Cross Creek Ranch (next door to cinco). It's like a resort in the country out here. It all depends what you are looking for and what you are willing to put up with.
