Houston highways are great, with one exception, as previously mentioned, 290 "the northwest freeway".....it is the new hell. Stay off it from 6-10AM and 3-7PM and you'll be ok.

Unfortunately I live in Austin and work in Houston so I deal with 290 way more than I have ever wanted.....

The only other spot that makes me want to bash my head in is the Beltway 8-I45 interchange. When 8 goes down to 2 lanes it's a massive bottleneck in rush hour. It's under construction though, and hopefully will be better soon.

Where? I drive more than I wish on various freeways, and can't recall any pothole-ridden freeways.

I have, but I work at IAH and paying 2 tolls on the beltway always frustrates me....plus going the extra 10 miles almost negates the time saved from traffic....unless there's a wreck on 290, then you're right, 10 is better.

I only do it once a week....my job puts me on the "road" for 4-5 days at a time, then I get 2-3 days off. I always start and end the work week in houston though.

I can't say NYC or DC roads and highways have anything over Houston roads and highways. Comparisons of various city's amenities are just a way to demean other locales... like, nothing better to do.

I've heard how bad and raggedy Houston's roads are.

Yeah, I have heard many bad things about cities that turned out to false. So your point is? Who can trust what they hear from other people?
