"At the meeting, Peters indicated that he had paid his employees in cash, and he appeared to agree to pay their outstanding wages."

So, if you take cash for labor, where do you have documents of employment and a record of attendance and amounts due? When did you pay Federal Taxes and Social Security Wage Tax? Did get receipts for payment? Any reconciliation of hours worked and wages paid? Did you punch a time clock? WTF?

This whole thing sounds fishy to me.

In the news tomorrow: construction workers steal tens of thousands in commodities and equipment.

Oh wait, that happens every day.

Construction is one of the most, cut-throat, thieving, lying, dishonest industries I can think of...especially when work is not plentiful. I had no idea how many pallets of bricks, front doors, ranges, fridges, mircrowaves, A/C units...just up and walk away in the back of "cash wage" workers' trucks.

Way back in 1974 it was a huge problem The builder would not install the HVAC and dishwasher on my house until closing day.

The thefts in the neighborhood also stopped when the subdivision was built out.
