What's a good place to purchase jewelry in Houston or online? I read on another forum that paying over 50% of the appraised value is a rip off, so I guess 30-40% of the appraised value would be a good deal?

I shopped several places when i purchased my wife's engagement/wedding ring and found that most of the smaller mom and pops chains didn't offer a warranty that covered the diamond if it was to fall off the ring, so I decided to purchase with Jared's. Granted the catch with Jared's is that you need to bring the ring in for inspection every 6 months for them to issue a certificate, just in case the diamond was to come lose. Jared's lifetime warranty plan will give you free resizing, adjustments, cleaning and rhodium plating free for as many times as you would like. The service at Jareds has been great and the turn around time to fix your jewelry is fairly quick. The 4C's very important, but the most important is CUT. Good luck.

If you are looking for engagement ring...go see Brian Gavin, that is where I bought mine. I couldn't have been happier with the experience. Brian spent over an hour with me talking about diamonds etc. Everyone that sees my wife's ring comments about how awesome it looks. Brian was the person that developed the cutting techinque of making hearts and arrows in diamonds. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.
