I suspect that HAR.com gives the info to HCAD anyway.

The year after I bought my last house, they adjusted the appraisal to the purchase price right down the the odd dollar amount..... I'm not the only one I know that experienced that.

I got 3 letters from Galveston County asking for that information shortly after closing on our new construction home. All 3 of those were filed in my shredder.

To my knowledge, HAR doesn't provide that info to HCAD. HCAD simply uses the MLS system (HAR) as a reference point.

I wouldn't provide HCAD with any information. They have their own people who do this type of research. Let them do it. Your Tax dollars pay for this. Providing this info makes it harder for you to protest later.

Another trick they use is to way over appraise the value. Say your house is a $250k home, they send you an appraisal for $350k.

Then when you protest the value they say:

Show us your closing statement. Once you show them, you cannot argue a cheaper value.

Your information is Private, keep it that way and don't play their game. Make them appraise your home like appraisers are suppose to do. They do their same tricks in the DFW area also.
