Default Music Etiquette

When I work out in the garage I like to play my music, not extremely loud, but loud enough where they probably can hear it outside two houses down when I have my garage open. I usually keep it closed but during the summer months it's too hot for that. My workout music of choice is hip hop. I'm moving to a new neighborhood, a master planned community. I want to put my best foot forward and have not previously lived in a predominantly white community; will my working out to loud rap music turn off my new neighbors?

Lol, is this a real question? If yes, then yeah, I don't think your neighbors would like that too much. To put it into perspective, suppose your neighbor did the same and he liked hillbilly banjo or french accordian music, and you lived next door to him.
If you have a house, why not put your gym in a corner in the house? It'll be air conditioned and you can have your music without disturbing the neighbors

I think it's important to know the difference between loud enough and obnoxiously loud. If it's in the middle of the day when most people are away from home, at work, or too busy to care, your music shouldn't be an issue, but some of your neighbors are easily preturbed, so it's best not to give them any reason to whine.

If you're playing loud music early in the morning or late at night, you're pretty much asking for trouble.

No - they won't like it. It isn't just the hip-hop - people usually don't like to hear music blasted from a couple of houses down. If the hip-hop has profanity then that will raise neighbors ire more. However, if you play your music where it is just in your garage and doesn't expand much beyond your personal listening area (i.e. driveway or yard) you are probably okay.

Use headphones. Then you can listen to it so loud you can stand it
No reason to impose others to your music choices.

Could be my favorite band, wouldn't care. If I am home trying to relax on a Saturday afternoon and you are cranking music out of your garage, I'd be one unhappy camper.

We all know white neighbors are gonna be more annoyed by hip hop than they would be by say country or other Top 40 garbage.

Dude - think whatever you want on the race/music thing but most people I know don't want to hear their neighbors' music blasting regardless of genre. My neighbor who never blasts music - one day sat out in his back yard blasting music, drinking a beer and just sitting in a chair in 100+ degree heat. Someone called the police from what I was told. I was going to the gym and hoping that the music would be gone when I returned. Because he never does that I thought maybe he had lost his job or wife had left him or something on that level. Never heard it since that one time and his life appears to be status quo, so who knows.

You know the answer to your question. Just to point out, though, it doesn't matter if the community is predominately white or not, or if its profanity-laced hip hop or Christian alternative - chances are no one will want to hear music blasting out of your garage within their home. Consciously playing your music loud enough so that others can easily hear it is not only inconsiderate, it is a sure-fire way to permanently give yourself a bad reputation in your new community and to get the cops paying you a visit or two.
