Well, maybe it's critical mass? Or ghost ride? Or Echo ride? Those are all three big rides. Critical mass happens only once per month at the last friday of every month and it can be as big as 600 cyclists.

There are enough things to keep Houstonians occupied and happy with day to day life. There are NOT enough things in Houston to impress a visitor. Everything that Houston has is present on a bigger scale and with better quality in other cities in America. So yes, if a tourist has been to NYC, LA, SF, Chicago, then Houston is pretty darn boring. If he's only been to smaller places, then our amenities will actually be a step up and will be interesting. Houston is not a travel destination. Unlike what some people have mentioned, it is not about marketing. It is not about public transportation. It is not because visitors themselves are boring. It's because you can go those other cities in the countries and you do not have to dig hard to find so-so things to do. It's because you will be underwhelmed when you visit the attractions in Houston compared to other cities. Houston is a great place to live--THAT is how it should market itself. You can find a job, a cheap place to live, pig out on great food, and get a tan year around. Live here, vacation elsewhere.

Let other cities like Miami, Las Vegas, etc. be "exciting" and deal with all the problems that come with that.

Did you guys see the cities that they have as "boring"?
Zurich, Singapore, Wellington...
what the h... do they consider an "exciting city"? Detroit? Ciudad Juarez?
I agree, people want to call Houston boring that's fine. We'll never be Vegas, Miami, new Orleans. But some of the cities on this list are surprising, I always thought Europe was the gold standard for the my city is better than your city snobs.

I agree that Houston is boring to visitors but I disagree that Houston can't walk and chew gum at the same time. Why can't it be both a great place to live and visit? The article is about the most boring cities to VISIT and honestly, Houston is pretty boring to visitors (ie lack of attractions, not much history, hard to navigate). We can debate whether or not it deserves to be ranked so high. The perception is exacerbated because in terms of population, Houston is in the league of LA and Chicago so naturally it will get compared to those cities. With that said, Houston is nowhere near as attractive to visitors.

Exactly.

I agree. The article does give a nod to tourism. And with that, Houston is most definitely boring to visit.

Key word, visit.

Exactly, the list is cr*p. Completely random, and I don't find true. Zurich was awesome! Houston's Museum district is perhaps one of the most interesting places to visit in the state.

Bah. Houston isn't boring to visit when you show visitors around.

Houston just isn't packaged like a typical tourist city. I like the fact that Houston is the kind of interesting place that is beyond some color brochure subject material. I've lived in San Diego...and that tourist thing is really over-rated. They don't have the diversity and high level arts of Houston. Period.

That's a fact. Houston does enjoy offbeat charms that OTHER cities don't have. I mean, I have never found a place like Taft St. Coffee and the adjacent, bizarre Fairview St. in a San Fran, LA, Atlanta, Chicago etc...

I will say this a million times...but OTHER cities don't have the mix and match of Houston. We enjoy downtown nightclubs and venues urban style...yet we ALSO HAVE something called Richmond Avenue that has a collection of the BIGGEST PATIO DECKS of all flavors. Tell me where you find that in San Fran, NY or Chicago or London or Manila! And we have everything in between! Tight party streets like Morningside in the Village...the grungy glamour of Washington Ave...the clapboard BOISTEROUS party villas of Kemah Lighthouse (Zone 504 and Palapas are awesome in that environment)...the crowded outdoor bars of Sugarland Town Square (that beats the hell out of a Universal City Walk on a Thursday or Friday evening!) for those who prefer a more packaged environment.

I took once took my cousin and friend from Florida to bars in the Montrose, late night dessert in New Chinatown looking at hot waitresses at Cafe 101, shops in the Village...getting torn up by chocolata drinks at the great Choco Bar, touring the downtown tunnels, walking the Heights concrete trail (and doing some Bad Ass Hot Dogs at Onion Creek afterwards)...and they HAD A BLAST.

People who are "bored" in Houston are just bandwagon types who are probably boring people themselves. They sit behind their little keyboards and try to analyze why Houston isn't built like San Fran or Boston...and why Houston should be probably unfavorably compared.

I don't care about those folks though. I can enjoy urban style downtown places like No-Tsu-Oh or Flying Saucer or I can enjoy huge edge city patios like Deck Hause or Mazaj or Darband's along the Richmond Ave axis. The atmosphere and setting at the Deck Hause...sure as hell won't find that in South of Market or Times Square or Hollywood or South Beach or Bourbon St or Peachtree or Deep Ellum or Makati or Piccadilly or Capitol St or Rush St or...

Dont broad cast this.... but the only way to keep the crowd out of Houston is to plant stories like this. Without the bad publicity arranged by the lesser Houston chamber of commerce, we would have more serious traffic issues and have no one to refer to us as a southern city in flyover country... dont let the secret out.
