I'm from the UK originally, so I'm used to Seattle's type of weather anyway. I'm more temperature sensitive than weather sensitive.

To each his own, I guess. I just thought it was kind of childish to dig up some old article so you could take one last jab at Houston before you "backed out the front door." Then you said you were moving on to "greener pastures" as if Seattle was some kind of utopia. I can agree with the summers here and wish they were more temperate myself. But I have had friends take the plunge from Houston to Seattle only to find themselves begging for sunlight and sick of what transplants there call the "Seattle Freeze."

That's part of it, but whoever was in charge of the festival is really to blame. You can't get mad at Houston for being Houston. Event organizers are responsible for doing the research ahead of time. They're supposed to know about how far hotels are from venues, what attractions could be found in the area, etc. If they found that Houston didn't meet their standards, then they should've took their asses somewhere else.

Not one person has said that. All I'm saying is be more realistic. Some of you are acting like a revamp of the city is just going to fall out of the sky.

If Houston ever does become a perfect tourist city, it will be decades from now. Those things don't happen overnight, and we'd still have to wait on the improvement of our rail system to herd tourist to and from the attractions.

No one in their right mind will say that Houston couldn't use improvement, but some of you need to stop acting like people here are just so miserable and can't get over how much this city "sucks".

I think that some of us just appreciate Houston more than others. I, for one, am in love with this city, not because of what it could be but because of what it already is and has been. I simply don't know the feeling of seeking validation from outsiders.

I agree.. Houston has a long list of things it needs to improve on if it is ever to be considered a "fun" destination. MY QUESTION IS WHY HAS THIS TAKEN SO LONG?? WHY WASNT THE NEED FOR ALL THESE IMPROVEMENTS SEEN A DECADE OR TWO AGO

I still cant believe that it takes a group of activists to point out a flaw to the local government to then have them "maybe" do something about it. Houston has been a very large city for some time, definitely large enough to warrant the need for better public transportation, and cleaner highways, and a need for a park downtown, etc.

I know what is done is done, err, what should have been done is now being done

Regardless, I'm furious at how long the city has taken to get its head out of its a$$...

I've heard from the black Houston kids at my school that Houston is fun. Even the kids that went to Houston for Spring Break this came back saying Houston is the s**t and it is better than going to Atlanta and Birmingham. Now I get on here, and some of y'all say it is boring. Maybe, Houston is boring to a particular age, race, and demographic??????

When living in Chicago/San Francisco/Portland/San Antonio...I hated hated hated all the tourist crap. Didn't hate tourist...but why the hell fly all the way to Chicago to make Navy Pier the number one destination....it is a crap hole....just like Fisherman's Warf/Pier 39 is to San Francisco. The only good thing about those places...they keep the boring tourist out of our way. Love when I bump into visitors at my neighborhood restaurant....those are the kinds of people I love....to visit with and be.
I agree if more people thought the way you did that Houston would be crawling with visitors. I LOVE this city. I am NEVER bored in this city. But from an outsiders perspective looking for a place to vacation there is really nothing that they know of here that would draw them in for a visit, and I am perfectly fine with that.

How Houston sinks its hooks into you is when you come here on a business trip, get offered a job here, see one of the top ten places lists, or come to visit family. Once people realize how good the QOL is here, how friendly the people are, and how many things there are to do after work and on the weekends they decide to move here (not to mention its proximity to Austin, SA, Dallas, NO and Galveston). Maybe this is one of the reasons Houston is the fastest growing city in the country?

I'm actually about to head to Galveston right now to mingle with some of the most beautiful sun-soaked bikini-clad women this state has to offer.
