I saw them laying the tracks at UH when I drove by the other day. They already started. I suppose this must be the "University" line, so it's a little too late.

And it's always nice to know they don't use voter approved fund for what the voters approved it for. But that explains the broke down Metro buses I see everything.
I'm having a hard time believing a couple of miles of light rail would result in so many people riding it ( as described in the article ). It's not gonna really get you anywhere. It's very, very limited.

The tacks being laid near UH are not for the University line. They are for the Southeast Line.

the University line is intended to run from UH down Richmond and westpark to the Hilcroft Transit Center

That is so sad since most of the dense construction in Houston would be around or near the westside line and uptown line. I live near the proposed line along westpark and newcastle. A lot of people in the complexes around me work downtown and would maybe like to have that as an option.

I think Houston is going to wait until traffic is at Los Angeles level of suckage before we get serious about transit. Our bus system, apart from the commuter lines, is mostly a rolling homeless shelter. I've only ridden the one line we have as an adventure and it was packed with rodeo folks. Honestly I love transit projects and I will always vote for them here, but I won't get out of my car and actually use them.
