Nightlife question: Does anyone know if the former Skybar location has been leased, up and running, and if so what kind of venue and clientele? I was driving up Montrose not too long back and saw lots of lights up there, looked like it was in use.

Just curious on my part. What has a Dallas person done to you to continue to dislike them? From an outsiders perspective I NEVER see a deragatory comment about Houston from a Dallas person. The Dallas people seem very modest and focused on improving their city. They seem very focused mentally and not interested in talking big like Houston.

I retired 2 years ago to Lake Chapala 30 miles south of Guadaljara. I spent one year in Houston, 2 in Dallas for my job. I personally liked Dallas much better.

Guadalajara completely blows the two out of the water. No contest and I am a lifelong Texan.

You live in Guadalajara and it's a real city. It's amazing.

I was at the zoo yeasterday. Have they recently made improvements or remodeling? It looked a lot better than the other time I went. I will give credit here, that whole area is a pretty nice oasis in a desert of concrete.

I actually like most people in Dallas... it's the city I don't like... and some of the sterotypical pretentious people... ever seen A-list Dallas??... yeah, those kind they actually exist in Dallas! And let me tell you, I have run into more people than I care to mention in Dallas that have the most AWFUL things to say about Houston... for example (I am about to quote Dallasites actual words) "Houston is a toilet bowl"... "Houston is so trashy"... "Houston is so dirty"... "Dallas is so much classier than Houston"... "Dallas has 'show'"... so this is my response to them just to let them know that Houston is not only better than Dallas, but reasons why Dallas sucks that leaves out opinion. Calling a place "trashy", "dirty", "classy" is really just an opinion. It's more substantial when you have facts to back it up. Fortunately, I have lots of facts to discredit their opinions. But then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Another instance was during the hurricane Ike evacuation. I went to Dallas and let me tell you all the outright RUDE people I ran into in Dallas who had an all-time lower view of Houstonians because we temporarily had no home. Houston is extremely welcoming to disaster victims and I was shocked at how Dallas people treated disaster victims (I am extremely sure not ALL people in Dallas are like this and would never say ALL Dallas people are this inconsiderate... but sadly, lots were)!! But moving past that... I like people from everywhere including Dallas, but I don't like all cities and Dallas is unfortunately #1 on the 'do not like list'.

I'll take Houston's crime over your bloody paradise anytime. You're in your 60's and have only lived in Houston for one single year of your long life. Most of your posts are about Houston and your strange Houston bashing. Happy retirement, hope you're armed at all times:

Three local men were gunned down in the center of Ajijic, home to thousands of American and Canadian retirees, on Easter Sunday night.
The Guadalajara area has become a major production center of methamphetamine, sold both to Mexican consumers and exported to the United States.

The rising number of “For Sale” signs in the area has coincided with the swell of violent crimes, as many are fleeing the neighborhoods they once thought were perfect for social retirees.

The narco gangs do tend to knock each other off that is certainly true. There is no need to be armed down here unless you are in a narco gang.

Otherwise, crime especially violent crime, is much lower in Mexico than in the U.S. You went to some effort to find some "scary" headlines about Mexican cities - it would be so very easy to do the same about any city including your own. It is childsplay to project an impression by doing that.

There are 20,000+ retired Americans, Canadians, Brits, Germans, and other expats here in Lake Chapala/Guadalajara. We love it.

And just for the record I am not in my 60's, not yet anyway. Thank you for you well wishes regarding my happy retirement. The past two years down here has been a wonderful dream.
