Default Best Way to Drive Through Houston on a Friday Morning

Hi everyone, I have to pick up my dad from Hobby on a Friday morning around 10 am. I'll be coming from College Station so I'll be coming down on 290. I'm just wondering which way would be the best way to get to Hobby from the northwest part of town. So basically, would the tollway be best? Or should I take 610 or even go through downtown? I'm not very familiar with Houston traffic patterns so I don't know which areas might still have lingering rush hour issues around that time. Any help would much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, just take the 290 to the Beltway 8- Sam Houston Tollway. Head North on the west beltway 8 and get off at JFK BLVD. At JFK BLVD turn left going north and that will take you into Bush airport. Watch the signs going up JFk. Bush is a big and confusing airport and you can easily miss a turn or pass your exit just be on the watch for which terminal your flight is at.

290E => 610S => 10E => 45S, exit Broadway.

You'll just have to grin & bear it on 290, that small piece of 610, and that small piece of 45 that wraps around downtown, and it should be free-flowing elsewhere unless there is a wreck. Thankfully on Friday the traffic is lighter in the morning vs Mon-Thurs.

Yes I'm going to Hobby not Bush but thank you. I'll keep that in mind if I ever have to go there.

Thank you. I actually did the reverse of that back in January!

He's going to Hobby! Anyway your best bet is to take the beltway all the way to 290.

If you time it to arrive around 290 and the beltway about 9:00 (probably leaving around 7:30 or so), you can go straight through town just fine most of the time. At that time it takes me less than 30 min to go from 290 & the beltway to the downtown area. From downtown out to Hobby should be less than 20 min.

The distance is about the same through town or around the south loop, only 3 miles difference. If you have a smart phone, do check the Houston Transtar map for traffic when you get close to the beltway. Might be quicker to take the beltway to I-10 and then go from there either to downtown or around the loop or even around the beltway. Taking the beltway around would be an additional 6-10 miles and ~$6 toll each way.

Thanks everyone. Seems like just going through town is the best bet. Unfortunately I don't have a smart phone and my gps does not have a traffic receiver but I'll try to get someone to check the traffic for me. Thanks for that site. I've been looking for a traffic site like that.
