Default New Harris County Park on Barker Cypress and West Rd

Does anyone know the details of the park they're building on Barker Cypress near West Road? There's a sign that says future home of Harris County Park, Precinct 3 or something like that.

I'm curious to see where this park is. Barker cypress and West road is pretty filled up with Loan star and the Berry Center. I guess next time I go by I'm going to look for that sign.

I think this may be the area where they had a large sand mining operation and now it's a big pond/lake.

This is the response I got:

We are in the late stages of Planning for the enlargement of the detention area with Harris County Flood Control. These Plans should be completed and go out for bids by the 2nd quarter of 2012. As soon as we have the final set of construction plans we will then start design of the park. Construction of the basin will begin late in the 3rd or early 4th quarter. This construction will take about a year or more depending on weather. As soon as the basin has been completed we will then begin construction on the trails, parking area and other amenities. Please feel free to call or e-mail if you have any other questions or comments.

Apparently there was a mix-up, although this sounds better:

"I need to apologize, the information that I gave you is for our Flood Control park on North Eldridge, Cypress Creek Park. The Barker Cypress location is called Upper Horsepen Creek Park. We have a better time frame for this park. Harris County Flood Control will be finished with the construction of the basin in the 2nd to 3rd quarter of 2012 depending on weather. We will then be finalizing the park plan at that time. The plans are at 40% completed and will have to have several reviews. The plan at this time will be a trail around the basin, with a playground, parking lot, picnic tables, exercise areas, water fountains, and restroom on the South side peninsula. We have a dog park planned across the basin on the north peninsula along with trails and a parking lot. At this time I do not have a full set of plans but we are working on them diligently. Sorry for any inconvenience. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns."

Looks like a pretty decent-sized basin. Larger than the lakes across the street at Towne Lake where they'll be motorboatin' and waterskiing. Hopefully, they'll have some kind of boat access, small fishing boats, kayaks, etc.

PS - Here in North Cypress, I'm looking forward to the new park on North Eldridge. That borders Cypress Creek and is surrounded by woods and a nice new neighborhood. The lake is pretty deep, it too was a former sand mine operation. (across the street from Lismore Lake).

Mr. Football,

You are a funny guy. I don't know what you have against Towne Lake.
