Hello Texas!,

I have been reading some of the threads in this forum for a while now and I cannot say how much helpful information I have come across. Thanks to many in this forum I have been able to make my decision in relocating from NY to Cypress, Texas. I have noticed the area is beautiful and homes tend to be a little more affordable than areas surrounding the city of Houston and Katy. I would like to ask the locals or anyone who has located how they like Cypress?..My husband and I are both Registered Nurses and we are looking to relocate by the end of January 2013. We have an 8 yr old son who LOVES football and has played since 4yr of age. As everyone else we look for a family community feel, safe, decent school districts/athletic programs/activities etc. We are currently looking at our options as far as employment which we hope to obtain prior to moving. I have a few yrs experience and my husband is a new grad. We realize as everywhere else its a little difficult to obtain an RN position as a new grad however we ask god that he obtains something!..lol..My question is regarding commutes in Cypress to lets say Medical Centers in Houston such as Ben Taub, Texas Childrens, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Methodist, Cypress Fairbanks etc..I have been looking at some maps to kind of gage where we can live and possible facilities where we may obtain employment...We're alreadyuse to 40-45 minutes commutes here in NY are the commute times any different in the Cypress area to these facilities?..Im sorry if Im too general with the question but if someone can help shed some light to this huge area that would be great!...thanks in advance..I so Look forward to moving to this beautiful state...My family is ready to start a new chapter in our lives and finally get away from this rat race in the state of NY..I will miss my home state...but It is not the same...and I believe TX offers the quality of life that many here seek..once again thank you!

Your son is moving to football heaven, as I'm sure you are aware, and I'm sure you will find your neighbors in Cypress very friendly.

As for the work stuff. I'm not in the medical field, but I do know that most of those hospitals you listed are in the Texas Medical center, which would be a really long haul to make every day from Cypress. However, I have been reading for a couple of years now, that there is a severe shortage of RN's in Texas in General, so I think your options may be more plentiful than you may think. I don't know off hand of any particular medical complexes in the Cypress area that I may refer you too... Good luck and welcome to Texas

Edit: I didn't realize this thread was that old. I'm guessing whatever issues she had have been resolved, hopefully for the better. To the poster from Mass. I hope maybe this was of some benefit to you, maybe

For new grad employment, try Texas Children's Hospital (right off Westheimer). They hire new grads and it's a good place for a new grad to start, especially on the night shift. Friendly people and good pay. It's a little ways from Cypress but a good place to work.

Old thread. Plus, she said she had applications in to "god". So, I'm sure she's fine.
