Default Moving from Dallas area to Houston area.

Hello,

My family and I are moving to the Houston area in March, due to my husbands job promotion. He will be working in many of the Houston suburbs. (He sales and services mesquito misting systems). We have two children one in elementry and one in middle school. They are both active in sports and my daughter is a cheerleader. We are looking for a town that is very similer to where we live now. (Rockwall/Rowlett area) We are wanting to live in a town with great schools, shopping, dining, outdoor activites. We love the close community feel we have with where we are now and want to have that again. So with all that said where would be a great city or town to live in?

I was born and raised in Houston, but lived in the DFW for 2 years (Plano, Carrolton areas). Not sure how the Rowlett area is but if you are loooking for good schools and nice neighborhoods give Pearland and Sugarland a try.

Here's a helpful website Houston Real Estate - Houston Homes, Houston Home Value and Houston Relocation
My wife and I are house hunting also. That website is a huge help. Good luck.

If you want an area most like Rockwall/Rowlett try the Katy area. No hills and no lake but...shopping, schools, scenery and development pretty much the same. Did the new Best Buy in Rockwall open yet?

You daughter cheerleading for Katy would be like cheering for southlake, after all katy is the no.1 ranked football team in texas(no.5 in the nation) and have just as good(if not better) of a football program as southlake

Not to mention the top school dist. in houston if not all of texas.

We will be taking a little trip in October to visit Katy and some other areas. I'm starting to get a little excited! What neighborhoods should we look at? We will be renting at first (just to make sure this is where we want to be) and then buying.

Check out the following as a start (this is certainly a non-exhaustive list as there are many great areas in Houston)

Katy
Woodlands
Kingwood
Sugarland
Cypress
Fall Creek
Eagle Springs
Bridgeland
Tellfarre (sp?)

Most of Houston's suburbs are on the west side of downtown. A lot of them like Katy, Sugar Land, and Cy- Fair are a little west of the city, but they border against west Houston. Those 3 areas would be good to check out because your husband's commute would be easier than somewhere like The Woodlands.

Smile Cinco Ranch

I've got friends in Sugar Land and Katy. Definitely try those places. Cinco Ranch is a hot new community and lots of people are moving there.
