Houston Ronnie moved from up this way to Pearland a few years ago. Perhaps he can tell us why.

I looked at the Houston Crime Report, now I understand why, despite the attractiveness of the prices in Ponderosa Forest, people are not rushing in to buy in the area (on top of the school issue). There were a lot of home burglaries and breaking and entering type of property crimes reported, even in the area that looked very nice and tranquil in the pictures in the real estate web sites. Not that those did not occur in other neighborhoods, even Champion Forest and Memorial Northwest.

I do not know about Ponderosa Forest and the crime there, what I do know is we get police reports every month for our area (Huntwick Forest) and I feel very safe here. In July a rock was thrown through a window. In August there was a break in and some jewelry was stolen. This is a pretty large subdivision and we are in a big city and as we all know crime happens everywhere. I don't consider these reports excessive.

Lets see...

Champions area:

Older, established neighborhoods (less cookie cutter type housing & more 60's, 70's, 80s', & even 90's style houses)
Least diverse of the bunch (mostly White)
Not nearly as coveted as it once was
More beautiful trees, forested

Clear Lake/League City:

Near the water
Cookie cutter neighborhoods
Way better shopping & dining options
Less trees more tropical foliage
Desirable place to live
Diverse

Sugar Land:

Newer suburb
Crime has gotten almost as bad as Houston
Cookie cutter neighborhoods
Texas' own miniature version of Orange County, Ca. (EXTREMELY diverse)
Excellent schools
Very good shopping & dining options

I'll check with Ponderosa residents about break ins tomorrow.

Call the constables office and the HCSO. Get the Ponderosa crime report from their HOA if you are serious about a house. Most of the subdivisions have contracted security through Ron Hickman's office or HCSO. These LEO's make a report to the entity who hired them, monthly. Car break ins in apartment areas is plentful. Occasionally, some bunch of baby thugs will go through a subdivision getting into unlocked cars that are on the street or in driveways.

I do know that a criminal followed an elderly couple home from the grocery store on Louetta, beat them and robbed them several months ago.

That is a site I go to and check out the neighborhood crime statistic. It appears very good, you can check every city, including those in Canada and the UK. I only tried the US, but you just type in an address in any city and it can goes back up to 6 months. How comprehensive it is and whether it under-reports some cases I do not know for sure.

Spotcrime is one of the better ones...unless you are in The viilages or Bellaire ...who refuse to report anything but nuisance crimes.

Had dinner with my friend from Ponderosa. There has been no uptick in crime within Ponderosa. She is comfortable in her home for 40 years and has no plans to move. Neither do any of her longtime friends.
