As fake as the name "Shuttle Enterprise" (from Star Trek)

It's ridiculous how houstonians continue to b*tch, bellyache, gripe, and groan about getting the shuttle replica. Based on the crappy response, KSC/Florida should have shipped it elsewhere, where people would appreciate it.

The same lame and lackluster response from Houston that doomed getting a flying shuttle continues with the replica. They're not even going to house the thing. The heat, sun, and humidity will ruin it after awhile. Really brilliant; just trash the thing. Typical Texas idiocy....

Well we were going to put a real one inside but we didn't get the real one and by the way, it was outside in the heat, humidity and rain in Florida too... The reason everyone is so unhappy about it is that we wanted a real one, not a wooden copy; this is just re-opening the wound, in a few years we will be proud to have it but not now, not yet.

Does everybody in the military get to take a real tank, helicopter, jet to their house?

Uhh ... nobody is asking for a shuttle for their house -- different comparison would have worked better. You aren't native to the Clear Lake area (maybe not Houston) but when your neighbors were astronauts and kids went to school with kids whose parent were in space and on the moon, that space center became embedded in their lives without them even realizing it and I would suspect that is why so many people feel a strong bond and would like to have had a real shuttle. For the most part, those same people seem to be okay with the replica and welcomed it here last weekend - they may have been disappointed but they are being optimistic about getting this and that visitors can have something that they can be more hands on with.

Me too. The Downtown Aquarium has nice exhibits but it needs to be multiplied by 100.

Space themed aquarium in the Astrodome???

I've seen actual shuttles up close, and the replica. Most people (probably over 95%) wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them!

But any reason to gripe and complain - even based on complete nonsense - is a matter of pride for some Texans, as clearly shown in this thread.

What about the giant box on the side of the fake one, seems like a dead give away.

It is natural to want more; I bet you that if we had gotten Enterprise we would have been complaining about not getting a real one and if we had gotten Endeavor or Atlantis we would have wanted Discovery...
