Default Where to live in the Bay Area?

Hi all,
me, my husband, our little daughter and our dog will move to Houston/ Bay Area from Germany next year (my husband will work for his company in Baytown).
We are searching for a really nice place to live for a (relatively) young family. We are thinking about Kemah, Clear Lake Shores, Friendswood, League City, etc. It´s not easy to make a desicion on the basis of google earth...
Can you recommend any of these places?
Thanks in advance,
Alex.

Rent or buy?

How much do you want to spend?

What is the max commute you husband would like to drive?

Will you be looking at schools?

All of the areas you've mentioned are nice and would be good to raise a family. There are houses that range from the $120's to...

Tuscan Lakes is very nice and new homes. Some parts of Tuscan Lakes are zone to Dickinson schools while the majority is zoned to Clear Creek Schools - if you look there, look in the section zoned to Clear Creek schools, they are much better than Dickinson.

You really need to drive around and see the area in person. There's a bit of uniqueness to most of the places. Kemah has the Boardwalk and the Lighthouse district (shops, restaurants, bars) of course so the town has a nautical feel. Friendswood has the small town feel with a lot of upscale neighborhoods. Clear Lake Shores is technically an island, and lots of people get around in golf carts. You sometimes have to dodge ducks in the street, too. League City has a few blocks lined by a canopy of oak trees with some historic houses and a small, beautiful park commonly used for weddings. Also it has the South Shore resort area filled with boats and a few yachts.

It's hard to recommend unless you have some specific wish list items. Actually you can't go wrong with any of them because it is an easy drive from one end of the Clear Lake area to another. And Baytown isn't far from any of these places. Just be aware that the closer you are to the bay (Clear Lake Shores and Kemah) the more risky it is in the event of a hurricane.

I lived in this area for many years. While there's plenty of shops and restaurants, I thought the traffic was atrocious. I recommend living close to I45 or a highway so you don't have to go through as many lights on your way to I45, which you will drive on A LOT.

I liked League City since it was a bit further than the shopping mall here (traffic around it is horrible, especially during the Christmas holidays) but still pretty close when I did want to go out to eat or shopping.

Hey, thanks for all your helpfull replies
Ok, here are some more details:
We would like to rent a house with garden. The price is not that important, cause the company will pay the major part. We don´t need schools near by, because our stay in the U.S. is limited on three years and our daughter is only 2 years old now. We would like to have some greenery around, to go for walks with our dogs etc. Playgrounds and some shops not to far away would be great as well.
My husbands says, he wouldn´t like to drive more than 30-40 minutes one way to work, but I think, if there would be a very good place to live a little further away, it would be ok, too.
Greetings from Cologne, Alex

Forgot to mention one thing:
I have read, that there are lots of industrial plants in the Bay Area. Is that true?
We wouldn´t like to have one of them in our neighbourhood or to have a view on an industrial plant from our kitchen window (or from any other window of our house )

I live in League City and rarely get on I-45. Since all the businesses have been built at 45 an 646 I don't have much need to go out of League City for anything.
