I thought I read an article recently in the Chronicle about Torchy's Tacos, an Austin institution, opening up in the Heights.

Other Austin places that need to be in Houston:

1. Amy's Ice Cream

2. Kerbey Lane Cafe (never been but hear it's awesome;they have something like 5-6 locations in Austin and the ones I have driven by are PACKED)

3. P. Terry's hamburgers

What do you think?

Houston doesn't need any of Austin's restaurants.

Austin needs Houston's endless variety of ethnic food.

Amy's ice cream is already here

Kerby Lane is only popular with tourists and people in Austin who don't know what good food is

Houston has a County Line Bar B Que which is out of Austin.

Having a Pluckers might be kinda neat, but its not a necessity.

Austin needs more Houston restaurants. Sorry, but I'll take a taqueria on Airline over crappy torchy's gringo tacos any day.

Austin restaurants=overpriced and all about dim lighting and a menu on a chalkboard. $17 for some quesadilla abomination plate and a waitress with an attitude and too many tattoos.

Torchy's really isn't that impressive, but I'm sure all the UT students in Houston appreciate a reminder of "local" places. Austin did recently get some Houston chains - Lupe Tortilla being one of them (had no idea that was Houston specific)

If they wanted a reminder why did they ever leave Austin in the first place?

Houston never has tried to be anything other than Houston & some people just can't seem to get over that.

Houston has 10 times better restaurants & variety than Austin could ever dream of having.

Houstonians eat out more than any other city. That is a fact.
