In SF public nudity is legal and not that big of a deal. In The Castro, there are occasionally nude men walking around, but otherwise, the nudists only come into the rest of the City for festivals and events like this one.

I remember reading about "The Nude Guy" in Berkeley, but didn't know it was OK in SF, as well. I don't think one could do that with impunity here in TX, except in somewhat secluded places like Hippie Hollow. (I lived in Austin in the 70s and it wasn't unusual to see naked people on the trail at Barton Creek ... but I suspect things have changed there since it became so developed.)

Try doing that in a conservative town, and they'll run you out of town.

Actually, public nudity is not legal in Berkeley, though I doubt much would be done in the way of enforcement. In SF, where the stigma has been removed, it has turned into just a funny occasional sight. It's not like everyone started going naked all the time. It mostly just happens during festivals and parades.

I have seen full frontal male nudity rollerblading on The Embarcadero, in the middle of of the Financial District at 4:30 on a Friday. That was leading up to Pride Weekend, though, and is not common. I did witness several nude men masturbating in public on a crowded sidewalk during the parade last June, in the middle of Market Street, in daylight. I was not okay with that. During Bay to Breakers, many people do the entire race fully naked or partially so. There are also several nude beaches in The City.

Tourists gawk, but those in The City don't really think twice about it and it's rarely ever an issue outside The Castro, where a very few older, out-of-shape men always seem to keep the nudist movement alive by trying to get served naked in restaurants and bars.

The Naked Houston Bike ride stopped at a pub I was visiting. Most of the 40-50 people were wearing underwear. There were a few topless folks though. They seemed to be having a good time.
