I need a long distance provider for my home phone (ATT landline). A couple years ago, I started seeing a small monthly charge on my phone bill ($3?). When I called ATT, they said that was their minimum charge for LD, whether I used any or not. So I told them to turn off LD access.

Now it turns out I need LD access. Not much, but some. Does anyone use a LD plan that has no monthly fee, but only charges for what you use?

Thanks!

PS: Using my cell phone is not acceptable in this case. I need LD access on my landline.

Set up a Google Voice number for long distance. It will call you and connect the call. No long distance charges like that! Excellent for infrequent uses.

I use Google Voice exclusively as my home number, and this is after I finally had a landline put in after 4 months in my new apartment. Domestic long distance is FREE.

No phone bill here, either. OBi100 with Google Voice... and we always have our cell phones if we need to call 911.

I have google voice (I never use it, but still keep it) and Magic Jack (which I do use for infrequent calls).
