Low cost of living? Ronnie were you born and raised in Texas without living any place else in your lifetime?

So the COL there isn't as low as people say it is? Is that what you are trying to say?

Houstonlibrarian might not understand what more sophisticated people are saying. It doesn't make them rude just because they can't slow down and explain everything to you.

Comparing the TX Hill Country to CO or WY is like comparing apples & oranges.

I'd say it gives SE OK, NW AR, NE AL, and NW GA a run for its money.

IMO NE Alabama and all the Appalachian foothills, the Ouachitas & Ozarks are still superior for scenery than the Hill Country, and especially in the Fall. E Tenn and W NC completely blows it out of the water. A lot of people in this state have never been to those places and don't know what they're missing.

The Hill Country still has plenty of ''postcard'' spots though, and can be very green in May/June after a wet spring. But on the other hand a September after a dry summer will render things pretty brown.

Texas is a big state. We also have the stereotype tumbleweed country in the NW of the state - the Big Bend area to the south - and the NE part looks like adjacent Arkansas. Padre Island is nicely coastal. Houston looks like none of these. Neither does Dallas. Nor do they look like each other.

That's why weekend road trips are fun.
