Nordstrom was a good fit for the upscale Galleria. I think TWM will be the true test. I bet once they see how well a store does in the 'burbs, more will be planned. And I bet a Nordstrom in the Woodlands will do very well.

I wonder why Houston only had 1 Nordstrom anyway when cities like SLC has 2.

There are several Nordstrom Racks. Sale items from the main store. Some around the country are over 50,0000 sf.

The Galleria is surrounded by all the better mid to upper class neighborhoods and cities. Piney Point, The Other Villages, River Oaks, Bellaire, West U, etc are all about 5 miles away. No point in having another when all of the higher income areas were surrounding the Galleria. Now that Money has stretched to the Woodlands, Cypress and the Clear Lake? Friendswood, there is now more of a market for more Nordstroms in the Woodlands, Willowbrook and Baybrook.

I went to RACK in Charlotte this week. The prices were decent, but I didn't buy anything.

Nordstrom definitely seems to be trying to appeal to a younger clients now. They have replaced the piano player with a deejay at my store. It is definitely an improvement. I liked the piano, but I think it is proven that loud music (not excessively loud) that is good (not crap, lol) makes you want to spend more. It definitely worked on me! lol

I wish they would open one in Sugar Land.

Yes, but without the humor. I though Nordstom's personnel excelled at customer service, but they weren't particularly funny.

It is mostly because Houston has less upscale malls than Miami, Atlanta, etc. Houston has just one great, upscale mall and The Woodlands has Tiffany's, so it is moderately upscale, but the rest are less upscale than where at least half of their stores locate. Eventually, I'm sure a third store would open. Houston Galleria is obviously the most upscale, then Woodlands, and 3rd IMO is actually Willowbrook, not Memorial City. However, it's too close to Woodlands for them to open a third store. Then, Baybrook and Memorial City are similar, however, I think that Nordstrom's next location will be Baybrook for those reasons.
Houston doesn't do upscale like it does middle-scale - but that is Houston. People here are just more practical with their money, unlike Dallas. I didn't find Nordstrom over-priced - I thought they were pretty reasonable. I think they would do well servicing Cinco (I hate to suggest West Oaks but it is the closest - maybe an outlet in Katy Mills instead), Sugar Land (First Colony) the SE (Baybrook), Champions and Cypress (Willowbrook) - and, of course, The Woodlands. Galleria is a given.

They would have to give us time to get used to nice personnel - at first, we would just freak and run out of the store.

I'm not sure Houstonians are more practical. I think they go someplace else for serious shopping. Any excuse to get out of town for a few days. I would not go to the Galleria if you held a gun to my head.

Living up here in south Dallas, I can get to NorthPark and be back by dinnertime.

Why would they when they have a big mall with serious shopping?
