United Airlines raises round-trip fares by $10 - Houston Chronicle

I guess this is Jeff Smisek's business model: Raise prices and cut service

United is going to ruin what was a great Continental hub at IAH. Sad to see them so bitter about Southwest. They need to learn to compete.

I just flew a long complex series of flights operated by United and their partners. The differences were incredible. United was terrible compared to partners like Lufthansa. United agents were surly, flights were late.

Honestly, as long as Jeff Smisek is running the show at United, they will continue to decline.

Jeff Smisek hasn't proven to the industry that he can actively adapt United to the ever-changing airline industry. When the industry changes, if your company can't change, you are toast! Right now United is in the toaster and the toast is about to burn.

I hate to say this, but maybe some of the international carriers need to start up US-based subsidiary operations similar to Virgin America. They can be majority US-owned but have the caliber and quality of service people say they get on the European and Asian carriers. That might be the only way to force the Uniteds and USAir's to get with it. Sounds like Greyhound and Megabus give a nicer customer experience nowadays.
