People say bad things about thornwood, but it is a recognized school I believe this past year. It's 85% economically disadvantaged and mostly townhome and apartment zoned which skews the demographics. I think it's more perception that it's not majority wealthy that makes it look worse in comparison. In any case, the only neighborhood zoned to it is Westwick and I doubt the OP will be lookin in there.

Thornwood..its come a long way baby.

Recognized for a school with such huge pecentages of disadvantaged students is rather wonderful.
Many of the retired seniors in the area run the PTO, due to the lack of envolved parents. Its made a world of difference.

I imagine it's hard for apartment families to have enough spare time to be involved. Many work multiple jobs. And the transience makes them less inclined. I'm glad that the seniors are helping run the PTO. I hope things keep improving to make Thornwood more attractive (though I doubt rezoning will occur any time soon).

Exactly!

So I'm thinking Memorial has to be somewhat pretty good. Either the parents wanted them in actual private school or they didn't have the clout or however Kinkaid or St. Johns picks students out of the vast number of wealthy kids trying to get in.

I think of Memorial being like that Beverly Hills High from Clueless except in Houston.

Memorial is usually in top 4 or 5 schools in the metro area, right under all the specialty school like Debakey or Yes. I have no clue how it could be considered bad, other than its your typical Texas public education. certainly one of safer high schools around. Its no Kinkaid, but certainly better than most all
Public high schools.

most people will tell you that Taylor and Memorial are both better schools than Stratford.

Taylor isn't a great choice for that area just because of the distance though.

Coke is better than Pepsi. Pepsi taste like Coke mixed with Dr. Pepper and whole lot of ice watered down.

DP taste like watered down Coke.
