It's been my experience that prices are pretty much the same, the difference is in the selection. For example the Gap there is HUGE compared to the one in Katy Mills or 290...

Pottery barn outlet used to be much better... lately their prices are just as high as the regular stores... not worth the drive...

The question you should ask yourself is not whether is cheaper, but selection... which stores do you want to shop at, and whether they have it at 290 or only San Marcos... Another example is the Timberland store, the only outlet Timberland in the Great State of Texas is there, there's no other one (outlet)

By the way, there should be some good sales going on this weekend with the Tax Free promotion... beware of the crowds though!

Prices are around the same...San Marcos as you know it just has more stuff.
