How in the hell can you compare Texas to certain countries in Africa?? And it's some places in America where it's hard to get even low paying jobs. Or low paying jobs is the only option in town. Not having anything doesn't help but makes the situation worst. Alot of cities with high crime rate also have a poor economy. You do the math

On August 27, 2009, Toyota announced that it would discontinue its production contract with NUMMI, shifting Tacoma production to its San Antonio, Texas Facility and Corolla to Canada.

I think Tupelo is geared towards the Prius?

No, Im not saying its tough. Im saying if they are going to deal with it, they have to go after those who employ illegals, not the illegals themselves. Going after the immigrants themselves will never solve anything.

Did I miss something? Texas makes cuts without raising taxes to balance its budget. Texas has a rainy day fund to help out as well.

CA on the other hand does not cut and proposes to raise taxes to fix its deficit.

The money CA throws at people that they think is helping them is only enabling them. This cycle has been so hard wired for a very long time here. It will never cease. CA spends a lot of it's money on welfare recipients. Compare Spending By State for 2012 - Charts

You probably did:

As to the second part, that isn't true. California wants to do it with tax hikes and budget cuts. Texas wants to do it solely with budget cuts.

They say they want to do it with budget cuts...but the big spending wheel keeps on turning. What about that billion dollar high speed rail system? They can't seem to stop the spending and giving money away to those who just flat out refuse to work.

California High Speed Rail Funding Approved

Yep really looks like they are serious about making budget cuts. Only a fool would invest in those bonds...which are certain to go down in value.

The below links offer some interesting information on the budget deficits of both states as well as the effect on Texas schools due to the budget cuts.

Texas has a rainy day fund chiefly because of the taxes on oil and gas production.Unfortunately, few states in the Union have an abundance of those resources and that rainy day fund will not be touched even to offset cuts in education.

Analysis: Texas vs California: A tale of two budget deficits | Reuters

The budget shortfall in California will be made up primarily by billions in cuts to schools along with the billion plus cut from social safety nets

Jerry Brown signs budget that relies on voter-backed tax hikes - Los Angeles Times

Personally as a family man and a parent it's a hard choice...pay even more in taxes or see our public schools in California decimated. Although some will argue that California schools have declined in quality more than a few school districts continue to provide a good education. Part of the reason may be that some of us are willing to pay a parcel tax to fund our school district.

I suppose California can just cut its way to resolve the budget shortfall as well but the aftermath of the budget cuts in Texas are disconcerting and something to seriously consider.

And don't forget those stimulus/federal funds to plug the remaining holes in our Texas budget!

Nope. Accounting tricks. Perry must have hired Enron accountants to make it look like a healthy budget.
