Hi everyone,

Our builder told us that we will have both gas and electric lines installed in the house. Now, we live in the apartment, and only use electric for everything. Does anyone know gas or electric which one is cheaper to be used in the house? Thank you.

You will probably want gas heat and gas hot water. Many people prefer gas cooking.

My daughter lives in a house that was all electric. Their city ran gas lines into the house in order to get people to change to gas heat. The city is the electricity provider and wants to cut down on electricity consumption. My daughter switched to gas heat and a gas water heater that was installed outside of her house. It is just a little flat box on the back side of her house.

Gas is cheaper. Better for cooking also.

On a side note, people were also able to stovetop cook with gas (using a match), even without having electricity after IKE. Note that you should not attempt oven cooking without electric, because the electric starter won't work to regulate.

If I could do it over I would have an electric top and gas oven. It's so much easier to clean a flat top stove. We cook a lot and it gets old having to clean all the nooks and crannies out. But as for cheaper, gas everything is the way to go on everything.

I'm with you on that, while I also dont like have the open flame with little children in the house. Gas is cheaper but I chose the flat top for the safety reasons, and less likely to start a fire.

Gas. Especially for cooking. With a gas stove, when you turn it off, it's off, with electric, when you turn it off it's still on.

I agree with everything that has been said and would also advise you to consider a gas cloths dryer if you do much laundry. Electricity is not cheap here.

Gas..yes the gas dryer is great.
i cant cook on an electric cooktop anymore, the inability to quickly turn the heat down ruins food and sauces.

Ya, that IS a strange comments as any one of us can buy electricity from anywhere, anytime. It's not like we buy electricity from a Texas-based generator.
