My husband and I are planning to move to Texas from Portland, OR and after reading this forum we kinda decide to look in two areas - Sugar Land and Humble. Can anybody help me a little more about these cities? Our budget is no more than $190,000 (cash).
I am Peruvian and my husband is american. We kinda like the prices in Humble, the houses are older, but they are closer to the airport, but also we were reading that Sugar Land has a very nice community...any thoughts?

Have you considered looking at Kingwood or The Woodlands as well?

Those two communities I mentioned have nearly most or all of the same amenities as Sugar Land and they are also close to Intercontinental as well. Unless you have a specific reason for looking at Sugar Land such as an easy commute to Southwest Houston, the Galleria, or Texas Medical Center I would advise you to look instead at the two areas I mentioned earlier. Anyways given that Houston is so spread out I would you to find places close to your job and focus from there.

If you have to choose between the two, Sugarland would be my choice. Sugarland is more diverse with a lot of asians and the area is cleaner, importantly school I think is better if you have kids. One major negative about Humble is too many airplanes flying over it, you'll hear it. Also, the city seems to be not growing on the residential side and the city government isn't as high budgeted as Sugarland. If you live further away from the airport, you'll probaly find better housing. Humble will be more affordable than Sugarland and the drive to work to Houston is easier on 59 North than SW Freeway. For quality of life, imo Sugarland is better. Good Luck!!!

PS: Look at these options- Katy, Clear Lake, The Woodlands, Cy Fair, Kingwood, Cinco Ranch, Pearland

If you are going to be using that airport frequently, I would check out Kingwood and Champions - and get a feel for both to make a decision.

I would recommend Kingwood over Humble with a 190k budget.

Kingwood. You can still spend $190 and do OK.

I would not recommend a house in Canyon Lakes you are pretty much guaranteed to lose money on it when you sell.

Humble--eagle springs or summerwood. I live in summerwood and at off peak times--my commute to airport is fewer than 15 minutes. If airport is an issue, I would rule out Sugar Land.
