Default Real World Houston

There was going to be a Real World Dallas. There's even been a Real WOrld Austin. But however do you think there'll be a Real World Houston?

For the non-genexers The Real Workd is when Mtv has 7 real life strangers live in a House and tape it for a 30 minute reality show. THey got o a sdifferent city every season. There's usually a black,a proffesional,a country person, a musician,a gay person, a player,a hispanic person, and a troublecauser.

AUstin is pretty interesting. Houston hasn't alot however the could be busy. Just wonder what area of town they would live in.

Austin is cool but everything that's in Austin can be found in some area of Houston. They could live Montrose, Houston Heights, Downtown, Midtown. All of those places are Real World-ish.

Where did you hear there was at one point going to be a Real World Dallas? The link took me to an Amazon page about CNBC's Jim Cramer.

It's real simple. The Real World is from New York. New York hates Chicago and hates Texas. New York doesn't think Austin is Texas. It took a very long time for MTV to have a Real World Chicago. When one thinks about it Chicago should have been one of the first cities to be chosen. There would never be a real world in Texas unless it was once again in Austin.

Houston isn't liberal enough. Austin is the only city in TX that would meet their requirement.

Are you serious? Houston is the most liberal city in Texas. If Houston wasn't liberal enough, I doubt that the city would have two residential districts dedicated to the gay/lesbian community. If Houston wasn't liberal enough, I doubt that it would be a democratic voting city with a democratic mayor.

Although Houston may be liberal for Texas, I would hardly classify it as liberal. For example, having districts where gay people have traditionally lived is hardly cutting edge. It's pretty normal for large cities. If anything, Montrose is pretty tame actually.

Not suggesting that it's more liberal than normal, but it is more liberal than many cities and states not in the South.

Funny liberals. A liberal from Texas may be regarded as a conservative by liberals in New York.

I think "Real World" chose Austin not specifically because it's liberal but a) it's well-known as a big college town with a large population of young people and b) it's known as "the live music capital of the world."

The city supports both South by Southwest (where the Real World kids worked during the Austin season) and Austin City Limits, two of the most popular music gatherings in the country. It's also the home or the home-away-from-home of a ton of film industry types (Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino, etc.) and these factors I'm sure played into MTV's decision. The producers probably know little about Texas but they know SXSW, Robert Rodriguez, UT, and Austin's "cool" reputation.

Neither Houston nor Dallas have these distinctions.
