The TXDot plan looks fairly direct and expedient. Houston could plan a line direct to DFW. Or a line to hook up in Austin, Temple, or Waco. Make a plan, take it to city council or TXDot.

That's a good question. I mean, in that it indicates there are at least some people in the Houston area who feel that their interests are not being represented by the officials elected to represent our region.

If I were to decide to be PO'd, it would be related to the fact that we have elected (for decades) people who don't lobby and vote for our interests in the way that similar officials from North Texas do for their constituents. Meaning, our neighbors to the north have officials who apparently work together to support things that are in the long-term economic best interest in their region. Meanwhile, we in Houston send tax dollars to Washington that is sent back to DFW to support rail, highways, as well (this is a bit old, but a good example) as contracts to people like Ross Perot who campaigned against government while getting rich on government contracts.

Here is what I don't get. I keep hearing that "republicans" are blocking the high speed rail projects in Houston. Yet Dallas, which I assume has a far more republican leaning city council then Houston, gets all sorts of rail projects passed. In fact, I would bet a majority of Houston's city council is democrat. So what is it about Dallas specifically that approves these projects and not Houston. Hell, let's leave democrats out of this and just focus on the republicans. Dallas republicans support high speed but Houston republicans don't? Is this right?

there have been a handful of Houston area Republicans in federal office that have taken action to stop rail in Houston. Delay and Culberson being the biggest culprits. Delay actually had money that was supposed to come to Houston for rail get diverted to Dallas rail projects.
