Can anyone tell me anything about Spring? Is it an okay place to live? My husband is being transferred to the Woodlands next month (we originally thought Sugar Land) and whenever I look at homes in the Woodlands online, a third of them are actually in Spring. I also found some homes I really like in the 77389 zip code. There is very little internet information on Spring and tons on the Woodlands. We also might be sending our son to St. Edwards school in Spring.

There is just a little unincorporated retail area that is Spring, Texas. The area designated by the post office goes from south of Farm to Market Road 1960 to the Woodlands from the Hardy tollroad to almost Tomball.

Go to the Spring ISD site and get their map. Also go to the Klein ISD site for their map. The Spring is an area larger than some large cities.

If your DH is working in the Woodlands you can go from FM 1960 to Conroe, depending on his tolerance for driving and your needs for the children, if any. Stay north of 1960 and west of I 45 for resale. Avoid the area around the hospital @ 1960, west to Kuykendahl. Louetta on north to Conroe is full of family oriented subdivisions.

Post Office designations and school districts may or may not have overlap.

In Houston aside from a few areas (heights, west u, other old areas) your subdivision is your neighborhood. No, it doesn't have a commercial aspect to it, but its what passes for little town communities in Houston. The towns that existed before were tiny farming communities and they were easily eclipsed by the growth of Houston and while some original elements remain (like Bailey's restaurant near louetta and stuebner-airline), most everything that resembled the original community is gone. It's something to get used to. You have a car to go from your subdivision to commercial areas (platted out contiguously) and then you go back to your subdivision. If you want small town feel you need to get out of the Houston suburban zone which probably puts you in tomball or conroe.

So it sounds as if The Woodlands is better for the amenities. I thought Spring was an actual town. There are so many subdivisions it's overwhelming.

Honestly, no offense but are you coming from a really small town because Houston is huge and there's so many subdivisions in this metro it'll make your head spin if you're coming from under 100k people.

No where is isolated in a community feel like how I think you're thinking. Like a small town. 1 high school, everyone says hi, everyone knows everyone. Your block is your community and what not. A couple of streets.

The Woodlands and Spring have similar amenities just like Houston. There's a lot of little subdivisions in The Woodlands too.

The woodlands is master planned but still set up in basically the same fashion, a remote commercial district and a lot of little subdivision areas, but it does have a nice walking trail all over the place.

Spring seriously lacks in public parks but is a nice (not bad) diverse middle class area.

I'd take Tomball over Conroe anyday
Conroe seems trashy to me (don't mean no disrespect)

Spring is full of sub-divisions but it has a couple of established neighborhoods off 2920 and also Old Town Spring is actually really nice and unique. But it's right next to The Woodlands so choose wisely.

We're actually coming from Broomfield, a large Denver suburb (but the Denver area is physically smaller than Houston). Just about every home here is 5-10 minutes from a grocery store and 15 minutes from a mall. No one here even mentions which subdivision they live in and that seems to be a really big deal in the Houston area threads I've been watching. Probably, our subdivisions are smaller, not really master planned, and we have more shops that are spread around. Our demographic seems to be about the same as The Woodlands/Spring area. Are these towns (Springs and Woodlands) the same or dramatically different?
