I'm about ready to rip out my hair.

This wasn't a problem when I purchased my home, but it's become an increasingly huge problem.

My neighbors have *5* dogs. 4 chihuahuas and 1 mutt that they keep outdoors for the most part. I have asked them if they could control their dogs' barking. Nothing. They said their dogs like to bark a lot. I have also called the police to complain about the noise. They were barking until 1AM last night in a cycle: bark incessantly for 10-15 minutes every hour, repeat.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make life a bit more tolerable? I'm starting to feel like a prisoner in my house.

Thanks in advance!

If you have an HOA, complain to them.

If the dogs wake you at one, go ring their doorbell until they answer and tell them their dogs woke you. I'd wager you aren't the only one the dogs are bothering.

I have a few Cujos around me too. For the most part neighbors keep them outside on the weekends. Yesterday was Saturday so for the most part no one was getting "work" sleep so everyone just deals. Sun-Thu night Cujos stay indoors because we all get up between 4-8.

There's a boxer, some annoying as frick Dachshunds and some kind of rodent yipper probably a chihuahua or yorkie.

It's annoying as hell but weekends aren't so bad.

In COH, anything over three dogs is considered a kennel. A residence can't be a kennel without a permit/license/zoned for.

Just FYI

Hi, everyone, thanks for the suggestions.

My neighborhood doesn't have an HOA, so that's unfortunately out. Their fence is designed, so that if I were to approach them in their yard (previous encounter was with me in my driveway with them in their yard), their dogs can get into the front.

Even though the dogs are annoying as hell, I know it's not their fault. While I do want some quiet, a part of me honestly feels bad for them.

I'm floored that the owners are oblivious to their dogs barking. Probably doesn't help that they also have five children who occasionally "rough play" with the dogs. Just... blaaaah.

Can the city do anything about it? I'm wondering if there has been more dogs prior to my moving in because they weren't spayed or neutered. :/

This.

Are you inside the city of Houston or outside the city yet still in Harris County?

I'm inside the City of Houston, in Harris County.

(By the way, I won't go into their yard because they fenced in the entire house; so the dogs will come at me if I get into their yard. Dogs that are out of control really scare the crap out of me.)

Coconutbutter, don't even try to go in the yard. If you're inside the city, look back at post #5. You should be able to call Animal Control and report the excessive barking from five dogs.

Good luck.

Find out their phone number. Get a prepaid cell and when the dogs wake you up call them so they can be up also.
