Hello everyone,

I am currently living with my husband and daughter in the Spring Branch area, north of the I-10 on Kempwood Dr. My girl is 4 years old and will be 5 this year, so I am looking for a good elementary where she can start kindergarten. I want to move from my current rented house as soon as possible because of some undesirable neighbors. At this time school is my first priority, but I have a big restriction on income as well, so I would like some suggestions of good schools but not on super expensive neighborhoods, such as the 77024 zip code.

Thank you!

P/S: I am just sticking to Spring Branch because my daughter will go to public school and I have read that the schools of HISD are not good. Anyway, if you know of any HISD schools that are good, let me know that as well.

Price range? Where does your husband work? Size of house matter?

There are many good elementary schools in spring branch. I hear good things about the new shadow oaks elem on west view, valley oaks elem, wood view elem, pretty much all of the 77079 elementaries (Thornwood is even improving). Houston ISD has many exceptional elementaries as well. It all depends on where you want to be approx.

Thank you for your answer, Lost_in_translation. Our budget is really tight right now so I think we can't go over 1,000 per month in the rent. Because of that, we are not looking for something big, just comfortable, with two bedrooms and one or two bathrooms. My husband works on Shadyvilla Ln, I think it is the 77055 zip code.

You know, I found some apartment options within my price range on the zip code 77079, but I don't know the schools. Have you heard of Meadow Wood Elementary?

Thank you again!

Assuming at some point you may want to buy and stay in the same elementary, Thornwood or Nottingham would be good choices also. Another option could be Wolfe elem in Katy ISD and the following 4plex rentals, HAR Mobile - Property Detail . Right across from terry Hershey park. Good luck

Meadow Wood is great school, you'll be very happy with that choice. Did you find something in the the Bateswood Apts?

Thank you Lost_in_translation for your comments and suggestions. It may sound funny to you but I didn't find anything on Har.com within my price range, maybe I didn't know how to search for it.

BDFP, thank you for your reassurance about Meadow Wood. I haven't called the Bateswood Apts. Are you familiar with them? They have so many bad reviews from apartmentratings.com that I don't know what to do.

I'm not familiar with them other than about 1/3 of the kids in the school seem to live there but I'm not sure what else is zoned to the school within your budget. You might also check for apartments zoned to Nottingham Elementary or Barbara Bush in HISD, great school by all accounts, otherwise you might want to look further afield in Katy.

I haven't been inside them, but they are an eyesore and have a very bad reputation in our area.
