Could anyone reccommend some cheap stables around town? I have some friends coming over to visit Texas for the first time and they claim that a true Texas experience won't be worth it if they don't get to ride a horse.. Yet, I'm not too hot on spending $50 / hour to walk on the horse.. Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

If they have never ridden before, I don't think there is anyplace that will let them do much more than walk with a lead.

My granddaughter takes lessons in Friendswood, but I don't think that she gives anyone just rides.

Try calling around to some of these stables

You can try BeachBumHorseRides.com if you want to drive over to Surfside area and ride on the beach. Or there is also HorseRidingFun.com It's in Cypress but has nice trails along the river.

I don't know of many horse rental places down in the the area you are asking, not in the way you are looking for anyway. There are a lot of riding stables but they only give lessons in an arena and they don't like to do just a one time thing sort of deal, they only give lessons to people who sign up for once or twice a week lessons. So they aren't going to let you go on a trail ride or what not like the above places I mentioned do, so it might be worth the drive for you.

Horseridingfun is off of 1960 near Humble. They do also do rides where you can have lunch half way through.

Default Horseback Riding on trails for beginners

There is a place just north of Houston where they take out beginner riders including those who have never ridden before for $60 weekdays or $75 weekends. They ride for a couple hours and go at the pace of the riders themselves, around ponds with alligators, through the Spring Creek Greenway trails, etc. You can find them at Just Us Gals if you put that up on your browser bar. They use comfortable western saddles and are very laid back, nothing fancy riding, not tail to nose trail riding only.
