Hey

I'm flying into Houston for an interview. I'll be driving north of the city. I know Bush is closer and will avoid downtown traffic. Flying in and driving north doesn't concern me too much.

I'm more concerned about driving down from and making it to Hobby airport on that Sunday. I'll be about 2 hours north (130 miles, Lufkin area) of the city and driving to make a 1 pm flight. Will I hit a lot of traffic in Houston?

What time should I aim to leave by without impacting my flight out?

Is it worth it to pay more to fly into Bush?

Thanks

So let me make sure I have this correct - you're flying in and out of Hobby, and you're driving to Lufkin?

Regardless of which airport you're flying into, I'd be more inclined to think that no matter which airport you fly into, you're more likely to run into more traffic driving north toward Lufkin on a weekday. This is particularly true if you're driving from Hobby and I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it.

As far as the Sunday goes, just leave when you would ordinarily leave and you'll be fine. Traffic around 11 on a Sunday won't be bad barring some incident.

If its on a sunday traffic should not be that bad. I would probably leave Lufkin at about 9, and get to hobby at about 11:30.

Traffic is fine until about 3:30 to 4pm anywhere besides Katy freeway. You're fine with going to Hobby but if IAH is cheaper go there as it's further North. If it's more, stay at Hobby as it's much much smaller and easier to navigate.

Whatever google maps says it is to your destination, just anticipate it being quicker during non rush hour times. JMHO, Rush hour times are 6-9am and 4-7pm excluding Katy.

If you're flying out of Hobby during rush hour then add 1 hr to your drive to be safe. Traffic is bad here but compared to most cities it's not.

If you are heading into Lufkin just fly into Bush-IAH and take US 59 north. You will deal with very little traffic heading north from IAH to Lufkin as opposed to Hobby which is located way on the other side of town.

Shrevport Airport is even closer than Bush. Zero traffic to worry about.

If your destination is Lufkin, fly into Bush, for crying out loud. I wouldn't even consider Hobby. It's on the far side of the city from where you will be.
