Eastman Chemical will be expanding to Port Arthur and I was wondering what the homes were like in the Winnie area. The location seems to be nice sense its somewhat closer to Houston and the Gulf. How bad is the commute from I 10 Westbound? Any areas to the west of Port Arthur under 30 minutes that anybody recommends? Schools are of top priority and if they are poor my children will just have to be home schooled. I suppose I am also a bit concerned about the area as far as racial tensions. My wife loves hot humid weather so I figure that will be a plus for us. Any negative drawbacks to the area? I know about the pollution problems in Texas City and Port Arthur. Does the wind blow from west to east for the most part like it does in the rest of the Southeast? Are there any chemical plants/paper plants located around the winnie area?

Thanks in advance

Winnie to Port Arthur would be an easy drive on Highway 73 and I can't imagine there would be much in the way of traffic problems.

Winnie schools are called "East Chambers."

Another school district just to the east of Winnie is called "Hamshire-Fannett."

Largely rural areas. Schools have a good, stable reputation (both districts) as best as I know. My brother went to school in Winnie but that has been quite a few years ago.
