Hi there,

We are relatively new to Houston, but arrived just in time to take part in the application process for our daughter who will be entering K in the fall. Curious to know why you don't hear much about TH Rogers? Is it because it is outside the loop? Anyone have any input/experience with this school?

Thanks!

It is an excellent school, but it is very hard to get into. It goes all the way through 8th grade.

Just what Katie said. It is one of the better schools in the city. It is better than most private schools. I have a few friends who went there. Good luck on your child getting in! If not there are other good schools in that area.

T H Rogers is not a zoned school. It is by application only for gifted and talented kids. It takes a small percentage of those that apply.

Thanks for your responses. We applied to private, several magnet and Vanguard magnet. We are fortunate that she got into THR but the response I have been getting is, "Why didn't you try for River Oaks Elementary?" I was wondering if I was missing something........

My son has been going to ROE for the last years and has been doing great. He just got accepted into THR for third grade so he will be able to stay there for middle school. Should I be excited? Will THR elementary program be the same as ROE. I know that there is a big difference in the ethnicity in both schools. THR has more economically backward kids as well whereas ROE is more for affluent class.

I am in a dilemma, tlwst36 I would interested in hearing about what you found about THR vs ROE.

As a principal in FW, please clarify for me what ,"economically backwards kids" means? Never heard the term in 30 years,

THR has a more rigorous curriculum than any regular elementary in any suburb, because it is a gifted curriculum for classes of gifted students. It does not have a neighborhood school zone and is 100% lottery.

Commonwealth is an excellent elementary that accepts all zoned students and has a "gifted curriculum" for identified students. Whether that's pull out or inclusion, I have no idea.
