My husband and I relocated to Houston from Buffalo, New York a couple of months ago. Any suggestions on things to do here?

Old Town Spring

Go north on I45 to 2920 (near the county line), exit, turn right. You'll see it a few miles down the road.

Go today.

What sort of things interest you? It would be easier to recommend if we knew some of your tastes.

There's lots of things...where are there good parks to take long walks? Best beaches. Are there any amusement parks? Husband and I are in our early 40's....nite life for our age group? Any good places with live music besides country (no offense to country lovers).

There are some really neat things to do in and around Houston. There are so many wonderful hike and bike trails around. The Houston Arboretum would be an awesome place to check out at this time of year. Where are you in Houston?

Some other things:

Check out Galveston--the Strand, the Historic Districts, the beach. If you go on a Saturday, you can usually see the cruise ships leave around 5PM. A great vantage point for this is Fisherman's Wharf restaurant, out on the patio!

The Zoo. It really is one of the most beautiful Zoos. The flora/fauna is almost better than the animals and it is well laid out. Take the Zoo train on a tour of Hermann Park, you will love it! Not just for kids!

Downtown Theater District: The Nutcracker is about to start and it's just a wonderful way to start off the Christmas season. Start with dinner at Birraporetti's and walk over to the Opera house. It's wonderful! There are also Tony award winning venues--The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts and the Alley Theater. We also have a terrific Symphony led by Hans Graf.

We have so many parks in this city, many are run by the various Precincts, some are by County, and some by City, so be sure to check where you are and do a search. Many have marvelous bike trails, hiking along bayous, etc (Terry Hershey Park has paved trails that wind along Buffalo Bayou).

You will not lack for things to do here in Houston. I am sure more folks have other suggestions, but hopefully the above will help.

Welcome!
