I haven't looked seriously over there since 2007, when we shopped a few homes, but ended up in Eastwood. So this is based on my experience. If 288 is the western edge, I probably wouldn't go farther north than Blodgett, farther east than Scott (and really, I wouldn't get all that close to Scott), and farther south than Parkwood.

Again, just my two cents, but a primary reason that we didn't buy over there was this unshakable vibe we got that we weren't really wanted. It's different from other areas, where you feel like people are happy to have you there, improving the neighborhood.

Check out Robindell. Mid century ranch homes, lots of trees, active civic club. Easy access to the Medical Center with a straight shot down Braeswood. $180 would get a home that wouldn't need any work at all. In recent years Robindell was voted most underappreciated and underrated neighborhood by Swamplot and the Houston Press.

I agree.

No one is playing a joke on the OP, and whether it is a hood "straight up" is in the eye of the beholder (i.e., the investor). To someone who can't imagine straying from their master-planned community, much of the inner loop (the entire inner loop) is the hood. To those that understand you take the bad with the good, then it's all about making an informed decision.

There are some great looking bungalows all along those streets.

It will take some time to turn around but I would think that its proximity to the Medical Center, Museum District, Hermann Park, Montrose and downtown will eventually lure folks into investing into the area. Honestly, I haven't driven through there in years so it may have already started happening.

Hmm, I used to live in the TMC area 9-10 years ago and recently took a drive around both sides of 288. While west of 288 has cleaned up, east has gone downhill quite a bit just due to aging... generally speaking.

As long as the residents there stand their ground against gentrification and keep letting things fall apart it'll just get worse. I don't think anyone in their right mind would live somewhere they weren't welcome.

I had a date last night and she lived in a townhouse just west of 59 south of 45 near Elgin. I got there a little early. I decided to drive across 59 and check out things. You could not pay me to live over there. I think it will be several decades before that area is turned over.

That isn't the same area the OP is asking about, which is generally at the Southmore and MacGregor exits. I know, it's pretty close, but it's Houston and a lot of otherwise decent areas are pretty close to "bad ones."

You was on the wrong side of the tracks, whiteboy.
