Around 4am this morning, our home security alarm system went off. it kept on saying Fire and the keypad did not indicate if a door or window was open. so i'm assuming our smoke detector may have caused it? the key pad didn't show anything else and all the smoke detectors seemed fine (none were beeping or had a flashing light or anything)

also, our security monitoring company didn't receive a notification as well.

any ideas why it could have gone off?

Faulty equipment due to shorting out, humidity, metallurgy, etc. BTDT- scares the crap out of you that's for sure!

Sullah, did your keypad indicate which sensor? for us, it didn't indicate a specific sensor so we can't tell

The tech should be able to test all of your equipment to figure out your problem.

Still sounds like you need an equipment check especially if the company didn't get any notified.

Its a good idea to functionality test the complete system every so often. Trip the alarm, wait for the alarm company to call, and state it was a system test.

If the sensor showed one of the main entrance door, it could be the door. If the door is made of wood, the wood expands and retracts with drastic temperature change. When it happens, it triggers the sensor. I know, I had one door that did that. I ended up changing the door.
