Anyone care to share your opinion on the difference on the grocery stores here? I have been going to Kroeger as it is the closest but wondering if there is a noticeable difference with Randalls (sp?) or HEB or any others that I missed.

Also - are there any good ethnic grocery stores here? In my old neighborhood (Evanston IL) I had a great place for deli and produce (best price and quality) and local a Dominicks (Safeway) or Jewel (Albertson or something) for almost everything else.

Finally - any independent butcher shops here?

I am in the Energy Corridor for the next month and then moving to Katy -- thanks!

Kroger has the best private label ice cream.

HEB has the best bakery out of the three, and maybe the best meat section (though Kroger's isn't bad).

Randalls/Safeway has good private label chips and snacks.

I believe that there's now an Aldi store in Katy, with a Trader Joe's on the way.

Phoenicia Specialty foods. Best one is the original on Westheimer. We used to go to the Russian store too, but Phoenicia sells what we bought there. If you're interested in Russian food, check out the small store in or around Hillcroft)

Phoenicia Specialty Foods

Trader Joe's for interesting specialty options (e.g., love salad dressings, generic versions of the expensive Amy's line of pizza, spicy mango slices, etc)

Of the larger chains, I like HEB best--but usually have to buy meat elsewhere (but I live way out in the burbs w/smaller stores)

In that area the Randalls in T&C is the best.

Bunker Hill HEB has the best produce and meats in the Memorial Area. Just don't go on the weeknds. the Costco has good meats as well.

Phoenicia has the best ethnic food selections.Seldom go because I hate the smell of curried foods.

H-Market on Blalock is an Asian Grocery, with interesting seafood and produce selections.but again go early if you want to avoid the crowds.

Herberts on Dairy Ashford, across from Stratford, has specialty meats and ready to cook meat dishes.

When Fresh Market opens at 12800 Memorial, I'll shop there exclusively. Love the ones in NC

Katy has a Whole Foods and a Sprouts. Those would be the top of my list.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Fiesta. I love the one on wayside. For my veggies I pick them myself from the fifth ward organic farm. I buy fruits like berries and grapes from whole foods.

Probably because they are in the Energy Corridor and moving to Katy. 5th ward is a little far,and the one nasty fiesta we had out this way was taken over by an Asian Market.

Oh yeah...Georgia's Market on the feeder between Dairy Ashford and Kirkwood. All organic.
