Creekstone, you don't need to get upset about my comment. They are both "reverse" trike "cars". One is a wild machine and the other is domestic. I think the term "neutered" is very much applicable. You could say that a Cessna is much like a neutered WWII fighter. While they are very different in many ways, they are also basically the same. You have a single prop, wings, stabilizers, they run on similar fuel and they generate lift the same way.

Actually, its website says it is a motorcycle according to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

True enough. We're good.

Fact is, I'd love to own a T-Rex.

At $6800, I bet plenty of folks will be buying the Elio as a base for custom projects. At the very least, the aftermarket will offer performance upgrades.

It is indeed a motorcycle by Federal standards. Anything with less than 4 wheels is a motorcycle by Federal standards. But look at it. Is it a car or a motorcycle? Enclosed cockpit. Roll cage. Seat belts. Air bags.

One of the hurdles facing Elio is helmet use because it is a motorcycle. They have a VP of Government Affairs that has been working behind the scenes to address that issue. He's had excellent success. Helmet use is determined by each state. Fortunately for Elio, many states don't require a helmet for motorcyclists. As for the others, many have set new standards for vehicles like the Elio. At this point, only 5 states still require a helmet. Elio is working on those.

I don't disagree with you.

As a matter of fact, I had been pretty geeked by the idea of compressed air cars; however, it looks like they might not be practical.
