The end is nigh! One of the riders of the apocalypse is here:

Barmy Bayou City Buses | Houstonia Magazine

Some of their stops are Market Square Park, the Aquarium, Hermann Park, and the Museum District.

Thoughts? Is Downtown on its way to becoming the central entertainment district we've always thought it could be?

I'll believe it when I see it.

Downtown's are generally never the entertainment or residential centers.

Downtown Boston - dead after work.
Downtown LA - dead after work.
Downtown Seattle - dead after work.
Downtown New York - better but still largely dead.
Downtown Atlanta - dead after work.
Downtown London - dead after work.

It's the same story in every city. I don't see why Houston continues with this fantasy that somehow their downtown will be different. They should focus on making Midtown more urban and developed.

Because downtown simply already has the bones to become a great urban area. They already have the wide sidewalks in place and the streets are very wide like many downtowns. Just because you urbanize Midtown does not mean you ignore your most historically urban area of the city.

Also, these busses usually do not run at night anyway. They run during the day when people are out. At least in DC and New York that's how it is. I don't see why Houston would not be any different.

Houston city tours? It doesn't seem like there is a need for that. These places aren't exactly world hubs. It's not like Times Square or Hollywood. I mean who would pay to be driven around to easily reachable spots by car, especially spots that aren't landmarks?

There will not be an explosion of tourists unless downtown transforms into a Manhattan-esque urban pedestrian shopping mecca.

Define Downtown London - admittedly there are a few parts that are dead at night but not the majority of it.

Downtown Chicago is starting to get busier at night, and not just with all the thousands that live downtown either.

Yes but it is still dead in many areas.

North of the river is much more lively. Lincoln Park even more so.

Downtown Los Angeles has gotten very busy on weekend nights. It is still not as bustling as Hollywood but it's moved up from being a dead end center for partying.
