You root for the Houston Rockets, Houston Astros, Houston Texans, and Houston Dynamo, but do you root for the Houston Cougars? Rice Owls?

How many of you have no direct connection with the University of Texas at Austin or Texas A&M University, but find yourself a bigger fan than for your hometown universities?

Better yet, how many of you have a direct connection with the University of Houston or Rice University, but still choose to root for UT-Austin or TAMU?

Just curious.

I went to UHD. Does that count? I am Longhorns fan with no affiliation to the school. I watched them on TV when I was kid and was in awe when I saw the stadium in person. I thought the upper level was incredibly slanted and ominous looking. I still root for UH when I catch a game on TV but I don't really follow them. It's hard to change teams when one has made a deep impression on you at such a young age.

UH fan and alum. Not a bandwagon fan. UH is changing. I don't know if you saw the picture from about 2-3 years ago - kid in UT gear sat on UH student side at football game yelling "cougar high" and giving the students the finger. He left the stadium covered in red paint. Point is fan support is growing. This kid would have been simply ignored 15 years ago. I also cheer for Rice.

I root for the usual Houston teams. I also pull for the Rice Owls. I have tons of friends that went there. I have lost track of how many tailgates and baseball games I have been there. I am not a Cougar High fan. I pull for UT because I am from Texas. I of course hate the Aggies. I am going to the Bama A&M game to watch Alabama destroy the Aggies.

7 years in Houston area has turned me into Houston Texan's fan. This was difficult since I grew up in El Paso and that is Dallas cowboys country (don't really know why) like most of the state.

Everyday I listen to News 92.9FM
everyday they talk about High School football
I don't remember them ever mentioning UH Cougars or Rice Owls

Who do I support?
Houston Dynamo and Houston Rockets
after that I somewhat support the Texans.... and the Astros, well, I still haven't had a reason to support them.

I'm a longhorn fan. I didn't go to UT but I've had a lot of friends go there and they got me sucked into watching many of their games and I just became a fan that way. Now I follow them every year. I just can't get into UH. Maybe because they don't play the other big schools that I like to watch. If UH had made it into the Big 12 I might have started to care.

I hate the Texans. I like the Astros, Dynamo, and Rockets.

Eh, UH plays "big schools" every season. You might not get so hyped for many Big 12 games involving TCU, Texas Tech, or Oklahoma State either, I guess. For 2013, Houston will be a BCS team.

2007 - Oregon, Alabama, TCU
2008 - Oklahoma State
2009 - Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Mississippi State
2010 - UCLA, Mississippi State, Texas Tech
2011 - UCLA, Penn State
2012 - UCLA
2013 - BYU, Rutgers, Louisville, Cincinnati

You can blame UT-Austin for that.
