I'm surprised Guerilla hasn't posted this yet!
![]() Study calls Galveston-Houston rail line a must-do | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle I really, really hope this happens. I hate driving. |

I was going to, but had other things to do (playoff football).
I can't wait until it is up and running! The Chron also got the completion date wrong. They say it will be 2030, when it will actually be complete before 2015. Typically Chronicle. |

![]() The good thing about this rail line is that the right-of-way is already there. It is just laying down the tracks and construction of the stations that will happen. It will still take a good hour to get from Downtown Houston to Galveston, but it will be a lot easier to sit and relax in a train than deal with I-45 traffic (including pulling over to get gas, etc.). In Galveston, the trolley system will bring the rail riders around. I think Galveston has some bus plans, too. I do like how the speed of the trains will reach speeds of 80 MPH, though. That will help with travel times. |

This is AWESOME. I gotta tell ya though, I could have told them for free it was a must-do.
![]() Didn't they have some train called the Texas Limited that went back and forth a long time ago? Ahead of its time, I guess. |

Yes, there was some mention of it on that other message board, if ya catch my drift, where I got this from.
From an older article:Houston-Galveston passenger train could roll again | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle The service ended in 1967 because more people were using cars and fewer were using rail. The Texas Limited, housed at the Amtrak station at 903 Washington, a privately owned enterprise that offered weekend rail trips between Houston and Galveston, ran on weekends from 1989 to 1994. |
