Thrift Shops...are there any good ones in Houston?
Can anyone there direct me to some good thrift shops in the greater Houston area?

There are also three or four Value Village locations throughout the city.

The Guild Shop on Dunlavy btwn Westheimer and W Grey - great furniture, nic-nacs, jewelry, some clothes
Blue Bird on Alabama east of Montrose - clothing, furniture
Catholic Charities on Mt Vernon (?) just off and visible from Westheimer between Mandell and Montrose - clothing, furniture, jewelry
Those are my favorites, there are plenty more including the big Goodwill on Washington if it is still there (been a while since I've looked for it) St Vincent DePaul had one on Washington too but I have not been there in a while.

Bear Creek Assistance Ministries on HWY 6, just north of Clay Road.
Another suggestion is ANY of the Friendswood Development neighborhoods; Copperfield, Deerfield to name just two. They do NOT allow yard sales, except once a year, with a permit. They tend to be more upscale neighborhoods and attact buyers from San Antonio and the RGV.
Copperfield is so large now that they have theirs over at the Trader's Village on Eldridge Road by US 290.

Go to the Heights. I believe the thrift stores are located on 19th st. along with many other shops (mostly antiques and home decor but a few other types). There are some huge ones there that are a bit more selective than regular thrift stores so you should expect to pay a little more, but most of the time it is worth it.
There is also a Sand Dollar located in the Heights. I think it is also on 19th st. I always find they have good stuff. For more fashion-forward stuff you can to go Buffalo Exchange and Taxi Taxi on Westheimer near the Westheimer and Fairview intersection. There are also a few houses that have been converted into vintage clothing shops on Westheimer in that area.

As an old time junker with over 30 years experience in various major cities, I can honestly say that Houston is horribly deficient when it comes to thrift or resale. However, The Guild Shop is, in my opinion, the top of the line for home furnishings. The Salvation Army near the Heights is good for clothing. It is near downtown. Sorry I cannot remember the street.

Value Village
Try the Value Village Superstore on Harrisburg. It's a bargain hunter's nirvana.

Washington@Hemphill?
That whole area (the old Sixth Ward) is like stepping into the past...
