I bought into Eado. Very close to the soccer stadium. I just see a lot of potential in that area. Me and my wife are very excited to be lucky enough to own our first home at a young age and the location just fits our lifestyle and work locations.

I've driven through when considering purchasing a home in the area, but decided against it due to price, condition of the homes, and the fact it is on the other side of the city from where i do 95% of my living. I do see potential, but it will take a long time. I see a lot of the new town homes in EaDo, and renovations in Eastwood. However, there doesn't seem to be an increase in number of business in the area, such as grocery stores. There are a few, and maybe that works for the neighborhood at this time. And as much as I love Montrose and Heights, I hope EaDo and the East End in general is able to have their own identity vs. the other neighborhoods.

The Greater East End Chamber of Commerce and other organizations -- plus prominent real estate developers -- have worked for years to attract quality retail to the near East End. It hasn't happened yet. The closest good, full-line grocery stores are in Midtown and Montrose; that's where where many area residents shop.

For various reasons (primarily quality and selection), the new Walmart on Wayside, HEB st Gulfgate and Kombat Kroger on Polk don't qualify as first-rate grocery stores.

I don't see a problem going to Kombat Kroger for mundane stuff. The issue will be when you want more luxury goods

Kombat Kroger is like a neighborhood convenience store, not a place for weekly grocery shopping. I don't know what you think of as "luxury goods", but anyone who likes to eat healthy and has quality produce, plain Greek yogurt or reduced fat sharp cheddar on their grocery list won't find it there.

I think Kroger forgot that location exists as they've dropped 5 within I-10 in a few years...I laughed at the layout with the 80s style atrium front

I like the area but its a strong industrial mix combined with tons of hidden slum apartments over there and the "new" residents will not participate in neighborhood schooling

hbcu -- Have you spent any time in Eastwood or nearby neighborhoods in the past couple of years? Industrial type businesses are moving elsewhere and slum apartments are being renovated or demo'ed. Check out listings for zip 77023 on HAR.com.

It will take A LOT more population density to support significantly more retail in the area, including another grocery store. The focus needs to be on getting the existing Kroger to upgrade, or the other East End grocery stores. No one mentioned the Fiesta and the three Sellers Brothers. If you're needing Whole Foods quality, you'll have to drive, unless you can get it at the Downtown Phoenicia. Randall's Midtown is honestly not far from EaDo, but it's inconvenient from the deeper East End.

Is HEB Gulfgate that bad?

I saw a mile long row of apartments behind the Fiesta yesterday....

Until I see Jackson MS totally changed in terms of demographics then I'll believe it

I bought in Idylwood a few months ago. Living the dream. I shop at the Walmart for what it's worth.
