Help with Cypress or Northwest Houston areas??
I am relocating to Houston in the next couple of months from Illinois. I'll be working off of 290 inside the beltway. Anyone have any suggestions on neighborhoods in or around the NW Houston/Cypress Area? Early 30's with newborn on the way so looking for nice diverse neighborhood, good schools, close to entertainment and shopping for the wife of course. Don't mind a commute but would prefer to keep it under 20 miles or 45min.

What's your price range and how important is diversity to you (Cypress is about 80% white)?
Lots of great neighborhoods to choose from in the NW (Cypress, Champions, Spring, Klein, Tomball, JV, Copperfield etc). Keep in mind, the commute is going to be pretty easy for you from all points in the Northwest as you can take 249 to the Beltway (fastest) or 290 (slowest). You may also want to check out Lakes on Eldridge and the surrounding neighborhoods. Also check out Windermere Lakes.

We are looking to spend up to $190K - $200K.
Do you happen to know anything about the following subdivisions: Westbrook Lakes (area near Hearthstone Country Club), Village of Cypress Lakes (off 290 opposite of Houston National Golf Club), Oak Landing (just north of FM 529 off of Fry Rd.). These are some of the areas that we have looked at so far online.

I used to live in Westbrook Lakes, I would say to stay out. Very nice concept, but the subdivision next to it, Chimney Hill (I have heard it affectionately called Criminal Hill) will keep the area supressed. Anything on Houston National is nice. A bit further out but nice area is Cole's Crossing, Bridgeland and Black Horse Ranch. Good luck!

What type of neighborhood?
Cypress and Spring are beautiful areas. What type of neighborhood are you looking for? Both cities have "Master planned communities" with new homes or "older" neighborhoods (70's to 90's). We will be moving to Texas the end of this year. We looked in both towns and at both types of communities. I am sure they all have both good and bad points, you just have to look and decide which is best for your family. We will be moving to Wimbledon Estates in Spring. The "older" neighborhoods were a better fit for us because we wanted both a pool and a yard. Also we preferred the architecture of the homes built in the 70's and 80's to the newer homes. Look on har.com and do lots of research. Best of luck to you in your move.
