during the day...compared to Chicago downtown and NYC, its a ghost town. There are attractions downtown that people might be at, but you don't see crowds of people just walking all up and down the streets.

Im staying at the Four points on southwest FWY. arriving Sat Dec 7th and flying out Thursday Dec 12th.

How about good area's up north. When we consider our move we do not wanna live in the city circle but in the subs North of the city within a 45 min drive to the city .

Texas7,

Do not get me wrong i like the whole mesume adventures, and I lived in DC where they have some very nice ones as well. but since out main goal of this visit is to get to know the city and look at the different area's Houston has to offer. We want to move there within a year. I know one 5 day trip will not do the job . but we would like to see as much as possible especially the subs (Where we want to live .)

ohhh so you want to see the suburbs.. well then The Woodlands is of course what most everyone will recommend (especially if you insist on being on the north side).. they have a fantastic town center in their "downtown". (you may not be used to seeing multiple 450' buildings 30 miles outside of the city.. get used to it in Houston, heh). the traffic on 45 can be rough though, so many commute on the Hardy Toll Road.
if your open to the west side of town (another desirable, but because so, highly populated part of town) there is Katy, Cinco Ranch, ect. if you dont want to be quite as far out there is the Memorial City area near CityCentre (another place that might be worth visiting while your here).

Look at www.har.com to get an idea of areas you can afford, then spend your time looking in those areas.

Burbs?
The best 3 are The Woodlands, Sugar Land and Clear Lake in that order IMO. They each offer different things but if you drive that triangle it's 50+ miles to the north and south and 30+ miles to the west and east. I'd maybe stay central and visit each area for one day and also visit the city core over 2 days starting downtown and going west to Chinatown. Whirlwind tour!!!

Do you know yet what area of town you may work in? That would go a long way in what suburbs we may recommend to you.

I can't think of anything more depressing that sending a tourist into the tunnel system. Unless you like dry cleaners and convenience stores...why??

If you want tourist stuff go to the Battleship Texas or NASA otherwise Houston isn't a huge tourist mecca. Go see the San Jac monument and have lunch and the Monument Inn.
